The Kainos (pronounced kahee-nos’) Project is the outreach ministry of the New Name Men’s Group. Our mission is to honor Christ through ministry and service of love to the oppressed and marginalized members of our community. Our group is pleased to help anyone in need but our focus are the widows, orphans (through serving foster care families), single moms and the homeless.
Kainos meets the fourth Saturday of every month to work on home repair and service projects in our neighborhood and community. The scopes of our projects include many types of work including carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs, painting, and landscaping, hauling debris to the dump as well as slightly used items to the New Neighbor Ministry and in general “just fixing broken stuff”.
Our group name, Kainos is defined as “new in quality” and is used frequently in scripture to denote an innovative work of God that has never before existed. Paul describes to the Ephesians just who they (we) are:
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new (kainos) in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new (kainos) self, created to be like God in true righteous and holiness.
– Eph. 4:24
Kainos was birthed from the New Name Men’s Group. We are a group of Jesus followers that are passionate about living as His disciples and every moment for His Glory. We meet every Saturday morning at 7:00 to explore his Word, worship Him with song, prayer and communion. Our group is richly diverse in age, race, economy and religious background.
We are simply a group of guys who have real issues and real struggles but we believe in a real God who cares about us and wants us to experience freedom in every area of our lives. Through this belief, we have seen and are continuing to see God do a great work in our lives. No matter the issue, there is no shame or rejection within our group, we accept everyone right where they are in their walk and just love on each other. The Bible tells us that love covers a multitude of sins! Love is who we are and what we do – showing God’s love as He has shown us in Jesus!
The origin of our group name identifies us as those to whom Jesus spoke:
“To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him A white stone with a New Name written on it, known only to him that receives it.”
– Revelation 2:17
